March 5th, 2008 · No Comments
Massage is a passive exercise. It is good for weak people. For good health regular massage is good, and is necessary both for prevention and cure of diseases.
The most common type of massage is oil massage. But certain precautions should be taken while choosing the oil. Keep in mind the season and the personal constitution while choosing it. Sesame oil is the best for massaging. Mustard oil is good for winters though it should not be used in summer. Olive oil can be also used in this season as it is heating in nature. For summers coconut oil and sunflower oil are ideal.
Procedure of Massaging
Start massage either from the feet or from head. If you are doing the massage yourself then it is generally started from feet, then the legs, hands, abdomen, back, chest, neck, shoulders, face and finally head. But if you are receiving massage from some one it is generally started from head. But there is no hard and fast rule for it.
Apply the oil on the part, which is to be massaged. Massage gently with palms till the oil penetrates the body. Give upward strokes. The motion should be neither too fast nor too slow. Give the pressure only on the muscles, not the bones. Different types of actions of fingers and hands are used for massaging different organs.
Massage should be done on an empty stomach. So early morning or evening is an ideal time for it. You can wash the oil off after massage. But the oil should be kept for at least 20-30 minutes before washing.
