Climate

The climate of Chamba is pleasant all through out the year. The maximum temperature in summer is 39 and minimum is 8 while in winter the maximum is 10 degree and minimum is 1.1. The best time to visit this pretty hill station is between Marchs to June.

How to reach

By Air: Nearest airport is Dharamshala, which is connected to Delhi by Vayudoot services.

By Rail: Nearest railhead is Pathankot (120 kms), which is connected to all the major cities of India.

By Road: Chamba is easily accessible from Amritsar (245 kms), Kangra (180 kms), Pathankot (120 kms), Shimla (422 kms), Manali (470 kms), Mandi (334 kms), Jammu (229 kms), Dharamshala (180 kms), Dalhousie (56 kms), etc.

Places of Interest

LAXMI NARAYAN TEMPLE:

Sahil Varman built Laxmi Narayana Temple in the 10th century AD. This beautiful temple has been built in the Shikhara style. The temple consists of Bimana i.e. Shikhara and GarbhGriha with a small antralya. This temple attracts the tourist for its mandapa like structure and the wooden Chhattries, the shell roof, atop the temple, which were in response to the local climatic conditions as a protection against snowfall.

CHAMPAVATI TEMPLE:

This temple is located behind the City Police Post and Treasury building. The temple is also in the Shikhara style with beautiful and stylish stone carving and the wheel roof.

VAJRESHWARI TEMPLE:

This temple is 1000 years old and is dedicated to Devi Vajreshwari-Goddess of lightning. The temple is situated on the northern most corner of the town. This temple is also built in the Shikhara style with wooden Chhattries.

CHAMUNDA DEVI TEMPLE:

The temple has artistic carvings on its lintel, pillars and the ceiling. There is a small shrine of Lord Shiva in the Shikhara style. From this temple you can get the glimpse of the landmarks in the town including Chaugan, Circuit House and river Ravi.

The temple is an ideal place for picnic as it has an easy approach and a commanding view.

SUI MATA TEMPLE:

The temple is divided into three parts. These are spread apart. This is the important sacred spot for the people of Chamba. One should not forget to visit this temple during the visit to Chamba.

RANG MAHAL:

Rang Mahal is located in Surara Mohalla. It is one of the largest monuments. Raja Umed Sing (1748-1764) laid the foundation of this palace. It is magnificent example of Mughal and British styles. Once it was the residence for a branch of the ruling family. The wall paintings and beautifully painted doors of the palace are preserved in the Bhuri Singh Museum of Chamba.

Fair and Festivals

Chamba is famous world wide for its colorful festivals. The Sui Mata festival, which held for four days in March/April every year, is the main festival of the people of Chamba. At the time of the harvest of the maize crop the local people show their happiness and enjoy the moment by celebrating the festival Minjar festival.
