Delhi Development Authority : DDA
August 6th, 2008 · No Comments
Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will start accepting applications for the 5010 flats it has put up for allotment through a random draw of lots. Expecting a massive turnout, DDA has printed five lakh brochures which will be sold for Rs 100. In 2006, DDA received nearly 1.90 lakh applications for the 3000 flats up for allotment.
Under the DDA Housing Scheme-2008, 5010 flats are being put up for allotment through a computerised process wherein every application after scrutiny will be allotted a random number to prevent irregularities and keep the process foolproof. The data will be fed into the computer and a draw will be carried out in the presence of judges and the media. Results are likely to be declared nearly three months after the application process ends on September 16.
Of the 5010 flats on offer are 3483 one bedroom flats, 889 two bedroom flats and 352 three bedroom flats. Another 286 flats will be under the expandable category where the owner can add upto two extra storeys. The flats are priced keeping in mind the middle and low income group.
Meanwhile, Tuesday was a busy day at the otherwise quiet housing department of DDA. With last minute preparations underway, housing commissioner Asma Manzar could be seen rushing from one meeting to the other. The counter at the DDA headquarters at Vikas Sadan was also being prepared to handle the rush of applicants. Two additional sales counters have been added here. Forms will be available from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm at Vikas Sadan.
To deal with the expected rush, forms will also be available at selected branches of banks like HDFC, IDBI, Axis and ICICI. Forms can also be collected from the branches of State Bank of India and Central Bank of India at Vikas Sadan and the Nehru Place branch of Union Bank of India.
DDA Housing Scheme-2008 is the 43rd such scheme from DDA. The first housing scheme was launched way back in 1968. Then it was an open ended general scheme where the applicants were registered and as and when the flats were available the DDA allotted them through a manual draw of lots. This general pattern continued till 1999.
The first one-time scheme was then launched wherein one time allotments were made and the deposits returned to unsuccessful registrants. According to senior DDA officials in the housing department, the general scheme was discontinued as it was leading to a backlog of pending registrants. Till date, DDA has allotted 3, 71,215 flats in all categories.
At prices almost 40% less than market rates, DDA’s newest offer is expected to elicit a huge response. DDA officials said though the flats may not look as good as builder-developed apartments from outside, the quality of construction could not be faulted. They added that samples were lifted from the construction sites periodically and put through checks at the quality control laboratory of the DDA.
