Dog collars

Dog collar is worn by dogs around its neck. These collars usually have a dog tag with the telephone number of its owner and other information on it. Different types of dog collars are available in the market. These are according to different functions and needs. These collars are very useful for walking and exercising dogs. Your dog should have a correctly fitting and comfortable collar and pet tag. Types of dog collar
1. Buckle Collars
Buckle collars may be made up of nylon, cotton, or leather. These collars are quite adjustable, as these are both flat and rolled one. It does not strangle your dog. Rolled leather collars are more comfortable than the flat ones as they avoid chafing or hair breakage.
2. Break-away Collars
If your dog feels to is pull itself free, if the need be, he can do it easily. But if attached to a leash, the collar will not open itself.
3. Quick-Release Collars
These are flat nylon buckle collars. It has plastic fastenings that help to put on and take off the collar quickly. These are quite adjustable. It does not get tighten around the neck of your dog.
4. Martingale Collars
It is usually made of leather, chain, or nylon. It is joined through loops by a circle of chain or leather to which the leash is fastened. If pulled on the leash tightens the collar, but the wide section both prevents the chain from tangling in a coat dog. This prevents the collar from being pulled tightly enough.
5. Choke Chains
These chains are generally not recommended, as they are used to give dogs a jerk in case if they do not obey a command. It may cause neck, back and tracheal injuries to dogs. It is used generally by the qualified, experienced instructors. Heavy chains collars with rough sliding must never be used on puppies. Never attach tags to chokers. If your dog is long-haired then it would need wide-link chokers.
6. Head Halters
These are much like halters used for horses. It is meant for dogs that pull. It is fasten right below the eyes of the dog and so these mostly uncomfortable for dogs. It allows the dog to drink, eat, bark or bite.
7. Pinch Collars
These training collars are much safer as they do not cause neck, back or tracheal injuries. These are not meant for puppies.
8. Electronic Collars
These training collars should only be used by professionals or by the experienced instructor.
If you are selecting any of these collars for your dog, then select it carefully. First check it whether it fits around the neck of your dog or not, whether he is feeling uncomfortable and having any other problem. Improper fitted collars and incorrect usage may prove fatal to dogs.
