Dog treats are the special dog foods given as a reward, and not as a staple. People make their own dog food or some times feed their dogs meals made from ingredients purchased in grocery or health-food stores. In the market your can get commercially manufactured dog food.
Home made varieties
People some times argue that commercial dog foods contain additives or poor-quality meat or ingredients that dogs should not ingest. Some times these commercial foods are not nutritionally sufficient for their dogs. So they prefer for homemade recipe for their dog. They prefer to give home made food consisting of nutritionally balanced vegetarian ingredients, to mixtures consisting of ingredients such as brown rice, brown pasta, meats, eggs, and vegetables.

On the basis of its water content, the commercial dog food can be categorized into:
- Dried
- Semi-moist
- Moist
Special varieties
Some special variety of dog foods are specially formulated for those dogs, which are allergic to wheat, corn, and/or chicken. These special varieties of foods usually contain lamb or fish meat. There also exist vegetarian dog foods marketed to owners who do not wish for their dogs to consume meat products.
Dog food
The dog food mainly Dried pellet dog food, called kibble, is made in two different ways. The first method is extruding and the other is baking.
- In the first method, a mixture of raw materials is fed into an expander. Pressurized steam or hot water is added. The pellet puff, when removed from the pressure. These pellets are then dried and sprayed with vitamins, grease, or any other ingredients that are not heat-tolerant.
- In the second method the raw material is simply baked.
Like a human, dogs also need protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, and minerals. It should be given in proper quantity as too much or too little of any of these may cause problems such as obesity, malnourishment, or even vitamin or mineral toxicity.
