Proper care and lifestyle make your hair healthier. This will also prevent your hair loss.

Hair care depends on its texture. The hair texture normally is dry, normal or oily. Sometimes it also depends on the chemically treated – bleached, dyed or permed.

The three main elements for hair care are:

~ Cleaning or shampooing,

~ Drying, and

~ Brushing.

Also you have to protect your hair from the sun or from chlorine and other chemicals.

Shampooing

Your hair will remain healthy if your keep your free from dust and dirt. It means the first and most important consideration in caring for the hair is keeping it clean. Hair often gets dirty when sebum, an oily substance secreted by the skin sebaceous glands, coats the shaft. Whatever the texture of your hair, it should be washed as often as required to look good.

How often you should shampoo your hair? This is very tricky question as shamppooing your hair depends upon the texture of hair. It also depends how much you are exposed to dirt and sun. The more you come in contact with it the more your hair needs cleaning.

To get the best result massage warm coconut oil on your scalp. Keep it overnight and rinse it off the next morning.

Drying

The heat from curling irons and blow-dryers damage the hair. To prevent damage the best way to dry the hair is to let it dry naturally. Vigorous rubbing with towel can also damage the hair.

But the workingwomen do not have that much of time for natural hair dry, especially it it is thick and long. The easiest way to dry the hair is with a small and hand-held blow-drier. Remember that overheating can dry out and damage the hair. Encourage the hair to curl when blow-drying it by winding the hair around a brush and holding it in place in the jet of hot air, or by using a diffuser. Blow-drying the hair with the head upside-down can create lift and body. For smooth and sleek look, comb the hair straight when drying.

Combing

Always comb your hair when dry and never when wet. If you comb wet hair it can easily be stretched or damaged.

Hair should be brushed gently from the scalp to disperse scalp oil over the hair. Work with the scalp and then down to the ends. This ensures that the oil from the follicles will be distributed completely over the length of each strand. To keep the blood circulation of the scalp brushing is essential.

The benefit of brushing keeps the knots loose and untangles the hair. Brushing from the roots to the tips helps smooth the cuticle and makes the hair shine. Always use a wide-toothed comb to avoid injury to your hair.

Diet

The food you eat reflects on your hair. Healthy, regular and well-rounded meals are best for you and your hair. Hair loss can be due to iron deficiency, inadequate consumption of red meat or heavy menstrual bleeding in women. Sometimes crash diets and eating disorders also damage hair.

For healthy and shiny hair foods rich in iron and essential amino acids are important. Increase the intake of iron rich food in your diet like fish, red meat, egg and green leafy vegetables.

Vitamin C and folic acid also helps absorb the iron from your food.
