Diabetes

When the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin or when the insulin (produced in the pancreas) does not work adequately, people suffer from diabetes. If it is not controlled timely, it can cause serious complications and often leads to premature death.

Diabetes can also cause adult blindness, lower-limb amputation, kidney disease and nerve damage. But the good news is, one can control the blood sugar level.

Diabetes is serious and you can have diabetes and not even know it.

Symptoms

Though there is not any symptom, but if you find these changes then be alert you may have it.

feeling very tired most of the time.

urinate often especially at night.

feeling very thirsty all the time.

feeling very hungry all the time.

losing weight for no reason.

wounds heal slowly.

feeling numbness or tingling in the toes.

blurry vision.

TYPES OF DIABETES

TYPE 1 DIABETES

Type 1 diabetes usually happens to children, adolescents and young adults. It develops within a few weeks. It happens when the immune system of the person destroys the beta cells in the pancreas. These beta cells are responsible for making insulin. Autoimmune, genetic, and environmental factors are the risk factors for type 1 diabetes.

TYPE 2 DIABETES

Type 2 diabetes generally happens to adult. It develops slowly. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes may not be noticed at all and are only diagnosed after a routine medical check up. Though there is much insulin in the blood, it do not work properly on the surface of the cells to allow glucose to enter and be used or stored. This is called high blood glucose level.

How to prevent Diabetes

1. weight loss and regular physical activity, such as walking for al least 30 min/day.

2. exercise every day.

3. Control High blood pressure, reduce cholesterol levels.

4. Quit smoking.

Follow a healthy and active lifestyle to improve the quality of your life.

Diet

Watch your diet. Have a healthy and nutritive diet consisting of low carbs, good fats, fresh vegetables and lean protein like fish or skinless chicken. Take a multivitamin. Vitamins C, E, Betacarotenoids, Selenium and Zinc is very important for people with diabetes. Drink at least 7-8 glass of water daily.

Tips

1. Brush and floss your teeth twice a day.

2. Take enough sleep.

3. Check your feet.

4. Go for regular check up.
