Tips to make an effective CV/resume

Regardless of your qualification, if you do not have an attractive CV you cannot survive in the market. It is very much necessary have an effective CV. Not only this, you should also update your resume from time to time like add all the activities you have done recently in it.
An attractive resume gives a good impression in this mind of the employer. Here are some tips to help you make an effective resume.
1 Make a first draft
First of all write down your current job title. List down every things you do and are responsible for on a day-to-day basis. Have a glance on what you have written. Always give priority to your responsibilities. Think in your mind- what have you done in your current role that has made you most proud? This will help you get the frame of your resume in your mind.
2 Choose a format
Now you are aware what to add and what to delete in your CV. You are to decide now how to package it.
Normally there are three standard types of CV/resume, and each has its uses.
- The Chronological one- This format is almost an industry standard. Make this kind of CV if your work history is stable and that every change in your job has seen you climb steadily up the career ladder. But it is not for those who frequently change their job.
- The Functional resume- This is for those who have experienced long time of unemployment or sporadic job jumps. Here you do not list employment dates or company names, preferring skills and responsibilities.
- The Prioritized CV- If you are about to undertake a career change, or the current skills are not directly relevant to the job applied for then you can opt for this format. Here priorities the work experience that are most relevant to the job you want.
3 Short and Simple
A good CV/resume is always of maximum length of two-pages. In to days busy world no one has time to read long resumes. So always try to make a short and simple CV. Add only those things, which are relevant to the job.
4 Be clever
CV is an outline sketches of your job history so choose the contents and words carefully. Try to highlight your strengths and abilities. You can use an active verb such as responsible and achieved. These types of word have universal appeal.
5 Type your resume
Always go for typed CV/resume. Never use fancy fonts.
6 Teamwork achievements
Never highlight your achievements if it was because of teamwork.
7 Spelling
Avoid bad typing and check the grammatical mistakes. Read your CV/resume more than once.
8 Referees
Check your referees before using their name.
9 Never mention the money
Do not show your current salary in your CV/resume unless you are asked.
Always follow these points while making your CV. This would help you avoid the mistakes and make an effective CV.
