Protests have broken out in Kolkata with Congress workers burning buses and resorting to violence. The protests come a day after eight Congress MLAs who went to distribute relief material were beaten by the villagers of Burdwan district. Congress MLAs alleged that it’s a handiwork of CPM.
The 12-hour bandh was called in protest against yesterday’s attack on CLP leader Manas Bhunia, Katwa MLA Rabindranath Chattopadhyay and party leader Nargis Begum by Marxist supporters at Dhanyarukhi village in Mangalkot.
Meanwhile, a report from North 24 Paragans said train services were disrupted at Shyamnagar on the Sealdah-Ranaghat main line as Congress supporters squatted on the tracks since 8 am with trains being stalled at the station.
A state transport corporation bus was set ablaze by protesters at Sodepur in North 24 Paraganas, police said.
