RBI asks banks to give Rs 3,000 cr for funds under SIDBI, NHB

To ensure growth momentum in the employment sensitive micro and small enterprises as well as rural housing sectors, the Reserve Bank has asked banks to provide Rs 3,000 crore for funds under SIDBI and National Housing Bank.
Of this amount, Rs 2,000 crore would be given to Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (Refinance) Fund with SIDBI and Rs 1,000 crore for Rural Housing Fund with NHB.
Banks have been statutorily asked to provide 40 per cent advances to priority sector, which now also includes weaker sections. Any shortfall in this lending is taken by RBI from banks after the end of fiscal year to be put into the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund maintained by Nabard. READ AT TIMES OF INDIA
