SC dismisses Oracle’s land row plea

The Supreme Court has dismissed multi-national software firm Oracle India’s plea challenging the Karnataka High Court order which had the effect of dispossessing it from a piece of land meant for its office.
The land possessed from Oracle was allegedly allotted to Mysore IT Solution Pvt Ltd for setting up office.
A bench headed by Justice S H Kapadia upheld the decision of the High Court which dismissed Oracle’s contempt plea seeking to punish a special land acquisition officer for dispossessing it from its land on the outskirts of Bangalore.
The Times of India writes “Oracle had alleged that the special land acquisition officer, Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, had allegedly violated the High Court’s interim order dated April 12, 2007 which stayed the dispossession of Oracle’s land.
According to Oracle, it had purchased more than two acres of industrial land for setting up a software technology park at market rate in September 2004 and had paid development charges of Rs 34.35 lakh for the commercial unit. READ MORE…
