voluntary retirement and Sixth Pay Commission

August 25th, 2008 · 8 Comments

The sixth pay commission has reduced the time period of full pension benefit to 20 years. The current practices don’t give full pension to a government employee who does not complete 33 years of services in his job.Sixth pay commission’s recommendation in this regard has been accepted by the Union Cabinet. Experts said the reduction in the number of years of service to 20 years to earn full pension benefit was a liberal move and would end stagnation in government service. Another important benefitis to raise the gratuity limit to Rs 10 lakh, higher pension for octogenarians, exclusion of earned leave encashed while in service from the overall limit, clubbing of earned leave and half-day pay leave for encashment. Octogenarians will now be paid an additional 20 per cent of their basic pension, while those aged 85 will get 30 per cent more, rising to 100 per cent additional pension for centurions.

I am a Maharashtra State Govt. Employee (PSU) due to retire on 31.12.2008. Since, I am in no way, going to benefit by the pension scheme announced by the 6th CPC as I fall under the lumpsum scheme, I will mainly have to depend on the Gratuity amount that I receive to cope with my old age. Can you please tell me whether the amount of Gratuity has been riased from the present Rs.3.5 lakhs to Rs.10 lakhs as recommended? Thanks.

I am volunteerly retired (w.e.f 01-06-06) Central Govt. employee. My basic pay as on 31-12-.5 was Rs.7550 in the scale of 5000-150-8000, with date of next increment to Rs.7700 on 01-03-06. I think it is better to opt for the revised pay scale w.e.f.01-03-06 to get better pensionary benefits. Kindly advise.
