Canon Powershot A570 IS
In its Review of Canon Powershot A570 IS, the Kenrockwell writes “This is a nice camera, but not much less expensive than the tiny SD700 I prefer and use personally. For most people the slimmer and smaller SD700 or SD800 are better cameras because of their better batteries and flash systems. The A570 eats AA batteries if you use it much, the others include a tiny rechargeable battery that runs forever with a charger. Get the A570 if you need to run on AA batteries. Get an A570 to give to your kid. The knobs and buttons are big and solid. Get one if you need manual control of shutter and aperture, which the SD700 and SD800 don’t provide. Digital compact cameras offer very few aperture choices, so the only reason to want manual exposure control is to lock in the same exposure value even in changing light. If you’re on a budget, you can get the same image quality if you can forgo image stabilization and the big LCD screen with the $199 A550“.

    • In its Review of Nikon D50, Trusted Reviews concludes "The D50 kit is a mixed bag. On the one hand it is a truly affordable, easy-to-use digital SLR that offers an entry point into the huge Nikon system. It is well designed, well made and performs admirably. On the other hand it has a sub-par lens and some problems with image quality. Maybe the D50 would be better with a more expensive lens, but t...

    • In its Verdict Review of Canon Powershot A710, ephotozine Writes "The A710 IS offers something of a middle ground in terms of functionality. The 6x optical zoom is nice, but it's not a really telling feature, just good to have, and the image stabilisation works well with it. • Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 Review at PopPhoto
    • The Popphoto in its review of Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 writes "The H9 performs some clever tricks. Nightshot slides the infrared filter off the sensor, so you can shoot in total darkness using the camera's infrared lamp. (Distance is limited to about 10 feet, and exposures are in the tripod zone.) After-shot fixes span the useful (redeye reduction, cropping) to the fun (fisheye effect, starburst filt...
